The original designer and composer reunited with Steins ;Gate writer Naotaka Hayashi
Kodoani.com – MAGES’ main website and Twitter account announced on Saturday that they are developing a new game titled “Memories Off Sōsō – Not Always True” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Memories Off visual novel series. This message also sends congratulations on the 24th anniversary since Memories Off – the series’ first game – was released on September 30.
The return of Mutsumi Sasaki (who is famous for character design in Chaos;HEAd and Happy Lesson) to take charge of character design for this game can be considered an adaptation of the original version. Meanwhile, Naotaka Hayashi, a member of MAGES (who was involved in writing the scripts for the 4th and 5th Memories Off, as well as the anime script for Steins;Gate), will be writing the script, an important part in adapting the original story to a game experience.
Takeshi Abo, who composed the music for previous Memories Off installments and also for Steins;Gate, will continue to handle the music, helping to maintain the series’ quality soundtrack in the new version.
The Memories Off game series was originally developed by KID and debuted on the PlayStation in 1999. However, after KID’s bankruptcy in 2006, the rights to produce the series were transferred to CyberFront, then continue by 5pb. in 2007 after 5pb. Acquired rights from CyberFront. Since then, Memories Off has become part of parent company MAGES. In 2011.
The eighth and most recent main title in the Memories Off series is Memories Off -Innocent Fille-, which was released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC via Steam in Japan in March 2018. The game also had a version Switch along with a Taiwanese version for PS4, Vita and Switch in October 2018. Notably, a fan version was released for PS4, PS Vita, Switch and PC in March 2019.
The game series has also spawned five anime projects (OVAs). Memories Off #5 Togireta Film is the most recent OVA in the series, released in 2006. A spin-off game titled “SINce Memories: Off the Starry Sky” was released on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on September 16, 2021 , then on Windows on December 16, 2021. Saturday’s announcement of the new title specifically noted that 2018’s Memories Off -Innocent Fille- was billed as the “final title” in the series The game was released commercially.
