The growing popularity of anime among young Japanese has put the country’s hairdressers in a predicament. A recent tweet by user @sekimiya revealed how obligatory it is for hairdressers to watch anime, because nowadays in Japan anyone knows about this field. Especially hairdressers often have to chat with their customers for interaction, which makes them have a common topic of interest and that is anime.
According to @sekimiya, sports or other news is an easy topic for hairdressers, because they can look at the results and talk about it. However, when it comes to anime, they have to watch the whole movie or at least understand the characters before they can talk about it. This is quite difficult because the nature of the work of hairdressers does not have much free time and concentration.
But, that is just one of many reasons why they are forced to watch anime if they do not want their business to fail. Another hairdresser admitted that she has to stay up to date with anime trends because clients often ask to style their hair like famous characters.
She shared, “There was a customer who came to the store and asked me to do my hair to look like the character in Tokyo Reverengers, at that time I was really confused.” It can be seen that currently updating anime news is becoming extremely important for hairdressers in Japan.
Besides, according to some users on Yaraon, the popularity of anime has increased even more, thanks to platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. “I think the number of anime viewers has increased since Amazon Prime and Netflix spread,” commented the user. It is this that has led to more and more people being influenced by the style in their favorite anime. As a result, some hair salons hit this point, opening an anime themed store, with figurines of famous characters, displaying manga volumes, and they were very successful.
