The much-anticipated adaptation of the romantic comedy manga My Dress-up Darling has aired episode 1. I’m sure a lot of people will be delighted to see one of their favorite couples get quality animation by the studio. CloverWorks!
If you’re looking for something healthy to watch every Saturday night, look no further because this anime has got it! My Dress-up Darling is the story of Wakana, a boy who dreams of becoming Kashirashi (traditional Japanese Hina doll maker), but doesn’t feel like he can fit into high school life until now. when Kitagawa, a girl who isn’t afraid to talk about her passions, enters his life.
For Wakana, you could say it was love at first sight when his grandfather showed him the Hina dolls he made. Wakana admired their beauty and thought they were the most beautiful thing in the world. At that time, he was inspired to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and that quickly led him to dive into research how to do it.
However, his love for Hina dolls was later trampled on by a girl, who criticized him as a boy but liked dolls. And since then, Wakana has isolated herself, feeling unable to make friends because her hobbies would make things awkward or would look weird in front of everyone. So, during elementary and middle school, he stayed alone, even if that meant people would end up taking advantage of him because of his personality.
Clearly, Wakana is a precious person, so it’s really sad when he feels he can’t make any friends because he feels like he’s either going to make things awkward or not. fit the life around the dream of becoming Kashirashi. So Wakana doesn’t do much but improve her skills, confidently appreciate her work and keep the habit of talking to them. In fact, while some might find it weird or even perverted, I think the way Wakana talks to the dolls is absolutely adorable, it shows the seriousness of his dream. that. How much love and devotion Wakana put into his craft, he has always treasured them.
Then when the beautiful Kitagawa arrives, who he believes is in a world completely different from his own. A place where she can proudly talk about the things she loves and not be shunned for it. This girl accidentally caught him in the club room with Hina doll and sewing machine, she saw that he could use a sewing machine and showed love for the Hina doll in his hand.
To be honest, Kitagawa’s serious reaction and sincere compliments about the Hina doll was what surprised Wakana in a girl he had always thought was different from him. The only person he can share this with is his grandfather, so you can see how much it means for him to hear it from someone else.
Ever since Kitagawa learned that Wakana made the dresses for the Hina dolls, she hasn’t hesitated to take off her school uniform to reveal her interest in cosplay. Poor Wakana was so confused that she didn’t know what to do! But the moment he turns around and realizes what she’s wearing is a cosplay she’s been working on, the way his brain goes from shy to professional. Cong really impressed me.
In a nutshell, episode 1 of My Dress-up Darling shows that Wakana takes his skills very seriously, so when he saw the mess in Kitagawa’s seams in creating Shizuku’s Cos, it was like a switch and he started to point out all the flaws and omissions endlessly! Kitagawa certainly looks like she’s going to cry over her clumsiness and so Wakana frantically apologizes, but that’s not because she’s offended or embarrassed, but more because she’s upset with herself for not can do justice to his favorite character. So Kitagawa decided to ask Wakana if he could help her by doing it and Wakana agreed.
The funny thing is that then Wakana needed more information about the character that Kitagawa would Cosplay and he heard the title of the game: Saint Slippery’s Academy for Girls, The Young Ladies of the Humilation Club: Debauched Miracle Life 2. This situation is more humorous. We’ll find out all the details about the game and Shizuku character next week!
And this is what I absolutely love about the character Kitagawa. She’s also super likable, kind, and a serious girl who has the confidence to proudly share what she loves with the world. Best of all, she won’t make people gossip about what people like or make fun of their hobbies, she’ll drag you along.
Marin is also the type to not turn a blind eye to a situation she feels is unfair. When she realizes that Wakana is being taken advantage of during the cleaning mission, instead of just shrugging, she tells him that he shouldn’t agree to things he doesn’t want to do but to speak up about how he feels. really. And when he tried to justify it as “reliable,” she called it “abused.” Of course that doesn’t mean Wakana isn’t aware of it. It was a bad habit of his to avoid getting stuck in an awkward and uncomfortable situation with others.
Her reaction to Wakana’s talent for making clothes may be the cutest this season (we had Lena of 86 – Eighty Six) and her reaction when he agrees to help her. It’s sweeter. The girl was dancing around the room because she was so excited about it. It’s been quite fun to see these two interactions, so look forward to the goodness and fun to come in the upcoming episodes.
Overall episode 1 was a great debut of My Dress-up Darling, I loved everything about it and wasn’t ready for the episode to end. They really did a great job with it, voicing, adjusting the character designs, I’m very pleased with that. I was also impressed with the cute style and melody of the ED song.
This anime season’s Saturday and Sunday nights have more competition than other colors. I will try to feel the best to share. But seriously, if you’re looking for a romantic comedy to watch this season then you should definitely check out episode 1 of My Dress-up Darling.
