In One Piece chapter 1041, agent CP0 received a new mission directly from Gorosei, which is to kill Luffy now. Why did the Five Elders have this sudden order?
1. Connect with Im?
In chapter 908, we saw Im shred Luffy and Teach’s wanted poster, while Shirahoshi was stabbed in the face by a sword. Im is also said to be holding a picture of Vivi without damaging it.
Then Im sat on the supreme throne to talk to Gorosei. Gorosei asked if Im had decided another “light” should be erased from history. Im’s answer was not displayed then. Even so, One Piece fans suspect Im’s target could be between Vivi, Luffy, Teach or Shirahoshi.
So is it possible that Im finally decided to get rid of Luffy, and then Gorosei passed the order on to CP0?
However, that Im-related scene happened in chapter 908, which is quite a while ago. Why is the order to kill Luffy only now given in chapter 1041?
2. The Devil Fruit that Gorosei is talking about is really the Gomu Gomu fruit?
In chapter 1037, Gorosei discussed a certain Devil Fruit. Now that devil fruit has become a legend that even the Five Elders have to accept, because in the past few hundred years it has never been awakened.
Then suddenly, in chapter 1041, CP0 takes on the mission to kill Luffy. Is the mentioned devil fruit really Gomu Gomu as many fans speculate?
3. Gorosei worried that Luffy will defeat Kaido?
In chapter 1036, we learn that even the CP0s outside of Onigashima already know that all Disasters have been lost. It was also mentioned in that chapter that the new generation’s chance of winning is only one in a million, but they still have to be prepared if the new generation, for example, wins.
News of that magnitude would have the fate of an era decided on Onigashima in a few minutes. Perhaps, the Gorosei had learned of the next developments of the situation in Onigashima, and realized that the new generation’s chances of victory were indeed greater than they had expected.
Luffy has so far caused many imbalances in the world, including causing several Shichibukai to fall. So if Luffy defeats Kaido, then the balance of the world in Gorosei’s eyes is really threatened. The Shichibukai have disbanded. Meanwhile, another Yonko (Big Mom) has been defeated. If Kaido also loses, it means that the 2 Yonko positions are suddenly vacant. That’s why the Five Elders want Luffy to fly as soon as possible.
In chapter 1041, the person contacting agent CP0 also states that it is an order to anticipate the worst.
