Kodoani.com – Have you ever wondered why the Eroge game has a console version? Eroge games were initially released on PC without any censorship and were later ported to consoles, where they were completely censored, removing adult scenes.
Eroge game developers took to social media to discuss the benefits of porting Eroge games to consoles in the early 2000s and why this was a common practice. On Twitter, one developer commented:
“Porting an eroge game to consoles is hardly profitable for the publisher. Additional scenarios and illustrations are available at unit price and royalties are based on a percentage of sales.
However, a move to consoles is still desirable. The biggest advantage is that the console can be adapted into an anime. Going directly from an eroge game to a TV anime adaptation is almost impossible.”
Another person joined the conversation, mentioning that it was a standard strategy in the early 2000s to negotiate a development series that included manga, novels, and anime.
Console versions often feature extras such as opening and theme songs, new female protagonists and routes, and more prominent supporting characters.
It’s also common for two companies to end up producing versions for different consoles of the same game. Take, for example, the eroge game Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, which was originally released as an eroge and later ported to the Dreamcast and Playstation 2.
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien was published by Alchemist for the Dreamcast version and by Princess Soft for the PS2 version, leading to differences between the two versions.
OP加・サブキャラメイン昇格とか要素モリモリだったので移植メーカーと原作メーカーの付き合い方が良好だとCS版の追加Contactよね

But that’s the main reason Eroge games censor console ports is the potential for anime, manga, etc., to generate more revenue since the console version itself isn’t financially beneficial.
