Why should you not give up when playing Valorant, especially ranked matches, even though you are losing completely?
Surely, anyone who plays Valorant has experienced the feeling of only losing 0-2 after a series of ‘pistol’ (pistol) competitions that received a series of chats calling for surrender. If so, then this is the article for you. There are plenty of reasons not to give up in ranked matches, and more specifically, there’s still a ‘hidden’ feature every time you lose.
According to Jonathan “EvrMoar” Walker of Valorant’s ranked mode design department, a player’s MMR (hidden rating) or Elo score will still increase in the event of a loss. Remember, the MMR score is completely different from the RR score received after each match, and the MMR level will be worth a lot more than the RR score received. So think carefully before hitting the surrender button.
Ranked Facts Friday!
Your MMR can go up on a loss! While your RR will go down, if you have a really good match your Encounter can go up higher the your Win/Loss MMR goes down. This is why you shouldn’t FF early, you want more chances to soften that loss and raise MMR.

As a basic example, if the MMR score is higher than the actual RR score, Riot Games will help you climb the rank faster by adding more RR points or allowing the player to jump the rank in some situations. “If you don’t surrender in ranked and lose a match, only the player’s RR will drop and the MMR will still increase,” EvrMoar said.
In case you decide to surrender, the system will not be able to record your progress, which means you will be counted as dropping the game like AFK and will not be increased or even deducted MMR. That’s why there’s a story about why surrendering often results in more points being deducted. Except in the case of force majeure that can not continue the match and have to surrender in Valorant, the rest try to play until the last round to improve your MMR as well as your sportsmanship.
