The rather surprising news that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been revealed may have some horror elements covering the game, according to some new information emerging about the upcoming Insomniac Games title. This information comes shortly after Insomniac confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a single-player game in the face of false rumors about the game having a co-op mode.
The third installment in Marvel’s Spider-Man series has yet to have an official release date, but maybe gamers won’t have to wait much longer. Not only has Sony repeatedly said that this exclusive PlayStation 5 product is targeting a late 2023 launch, but the company’s next PlayStation Showcase event is also coming. With that in mind, it’s very likely that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will finally be set for a release date at the upcoming May 24 event for the gaming community.
In the meantime, it’s been recently reported that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will incorporate horror elements, citing direct information shared by some of the game’s voice actors. In response to the latest video from YouTuber Evan Filarca, user nerdycollector209 said he met Nadji Jeter, the voice of Miles Morales, and was advised by him to play the game with a VR headset and play in the dark because of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be “a lot scarier” than its predecessors.
User nerdycollector209 was advised by voice actor Miles Morales to play the game with a VR headset in the dark as the game would be “a lot scarier” than its predecessors.
In Jeter’s 2022 SacAnime Summer synopsis, the actor says that Venom-like Symbiotes “will be everywhere” in the game. Filarca speculates this means Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could be a spiritual sequel to Activision’s 2008 game Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, which had a similar plot centered on an invasion large scale of Symbiote. In response to that speculation, user kevinplantz12 also said “I swore to secrecy, but your predictions aren’t too far from the truth” in response to the video, adding that he’s heard some similar information from both Jeter and Tony Todd, the voice of Venom in the upcoming game.
The concept of a horror Spider-Man game with a creepy vibe doesn’t sound too far-fetched for Insomniac’s next project. Basically, Venom’s appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is highly suggestive, not least because Venom has historically been one of Spider-Man’s most feared villains.
Furthermore, both actors Jeter and Todd have a history of revealing game information early during their interactions with fans. This was most recently demonstrated in late March when Todd revealed that Insomniac’s upcoming game was slated for a September release. The Spider-Man 2 voice actor then tried to hide the leak. on that release date but with little success. While that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the next game will actually have horror elements, the sources of information so far are pretty reliable and it should be exciting for gamers to see one. about what Spider-Man with a horror background would look like.
