After more than a decade, the Assassin’s Creed series has been a resounding success in the same “stealth action” mechanics that have become the franchise. Then since 2017, this game officially turned to another development direction, which is role-playing action – RPG. Ubisoft says it will remove the stealth action mechanic entirely, instead doubling down on the RPG’s structured content. This will turn Assassin’s Creed into an action role-playing game, not a stealthy action like before.
For those who loved this series from the very beginning, this can be said to be heartbreaking news. However, if we look at the 3 most recent versions of this series, Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla, we can completely see the action and role-playing qualities are becoming more and more obvious. Ubisoft has been gradually changing the structure of this game over the past 4 years and now it’s time for them to decide on a complete overhaul.
But gamers can still experience the classic stealth genre once again with a completely new project called Assassin’s Creed Rift. According to a report from Bloomberg site, the next product after Valhalla will take the look of the old games, take the form of recent games and will be released soon in 2023. Initially this project was just an open game. Valhalla’s expansion, but Ubisoft has branched out to create a new part of the game with a classic stealth style.
It is also said that Rift will follow in the footsteps of Basim – an assassin who appeared in Valhalla. The game will most likely go back to Basim’s roots and his development to become a master assassin. Another source said that Rift will be set in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
This information is somewhat accurate because the last project they announced is Assassin’s Creed Infinity – an Online game with many different contexts. However, this project is still in the early stages of development and it will take a few years for the game to be released. This leaves Ubisoft’s AC release schedule with a huge hole – something that has never happened.
This is good news for those who are fans of the Assassin’s Creed series when in the future they can re-experience the flavors in the old, familiar but unforgettable style.
