Of all the Super Saiyans introduced in the Dragon Ball series, the one who achieved this transformation at the youngest age was Goten, Goku’s second son. At the time of preparing for the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament in Dragon Ball Z, Goten shocked his family by revealing he had achieved Super Saiyan even though he was only 7 years old at the time.
As we all know, other characters to transform into Super Saiyan must try to practice from a rigorous training process. For example, Trunks, first transformed into a Super Saiyan when he was 8 years old, however, he had to undergo training in an intense gravity chamber with his father Vegeta. Gohan received several buffs and trained with Piccolo and Goku before transforming his Super Saiyan in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber at the age of 11. In contrast, Goten received martial arts training only by Chi-Chi and not Even though he was so well-educated, he still achieved it at a very young age. It is this that makes Goten’s rapid transformation even more prominent and makes many people curious.
Recently, some fans have hypothesized about this issue, they think that Goten has received external influences, not just practice can do it. Specifically, he received his father’s strength before he was born.
Toriyama Akira previously explained the Super Saiyan transformation, including how it is achieved and why it causes the user’s appearance to change dramatically. He once shared: “The main condition to become a true Super Saiyan, not everyone can achieve it through practice or anger. To become a Super Saiyan, their body must have cells. S-Cells, when the number of these cells reaches a certain number, adding a catalyst (such as anger or strong emotion) causes the number of cells to skyrocket, then the person’s body will change and can become a Super Saiyan”.
We also know that most Saiyans have S cells but the number is not enough, but Goku and Vegeta’s children inherit quite a lot of S cells, plus the earth environment is easier to live on on Saiyan planet so children born later with half-Saiyan, half-earth blood are more likely to transform into Super Saiyans.
Also, sometime after training with Gohan for a year inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Goku stated that he and his eldest son should maintain Super Saiyan transformations at all times. This minimizes the physical strain and energy consumption that the state has on their bodies, so Goku and Gohan can even sleep while transforming.
