A new report by Newzoo and MAAS has delved into the overall Indian and Asian gaming market in terms of mobile gamers.
With over 373 million players, India represents the second largest gaming market in the world and over 91% of gamers in the mobile gaming region. Newzoo predicts that India will generate more than $2.2 billion in revenue for the mobile game market by 2022, having a major impact on the Asian gaming industry.
The report studied both paid and free games. Male gamers make up the majority of both metrics, with 62% of players playing free games and 55% of gamers playing paid games.
Male gamers also made up the majority of every genre studied. Battle royale titles have the biggest difference between genders, with 68% of gamers in the genre being male. In contrast, puzzle games have the smallest gender divide, with 54% of players being male compared to 46% being female.
Gaming is a particular attraction for Millennials (born 1980 to 1990) and Gen Z. Action genres like battle royale and adventure are particularly appealing, with 55% and 51% of gamers respectively. from 13 to 27 years old. About 50% of Gen Z gamers (born 1997 to 2002) are actively engaged in paid gaming, compared to just 35% of Millennials. This shows that younger generations are more inclined to spend real money on gaming than older generations.
Sports-based games reach a large number of players especially during the festive season in September in many Asian countries such as India. This suggests that publishers looking to boost revenue might do well to release games during this time period.
Casual games are still among those that perform well in terms of retention. In which mid-range games have retention rates of 25%, 5% and 1% after the same time period. This shows that, while the midsize market is growing, it has not completely surpassed the casual game market in terms of retention and revenue.
The report states that although the Indian market is rapidly growing, it is also a market that has not yet reached its full potential. The analysts also highlighted the potential of the gaming sector as “one of the questions of India in terms of retaining and growing a pool of professional gamers who can earn between $440 and $770 per month. .
