The PC version was founded by a fan project spanning over two years that successfully backward compatible the Ocarina of Time version as C code and successfully programmed. A similar project led to the release of the PC version of Super Mario 64 in 2019. The PC version of Mario 64 was quickly revised with new graphics and modern effects such as ray tracing. and it looks like Ocarina will get even more modding support.
This type of reverse engineering is considered legal as the fans do not use any of the leaked content nor use any of Nintendo’s original copyrighted assets. Players will have to provide their own version of the game ROM in order to be able to play it.
Speaking in January, Harbor Masters developer ‘Kenix’ said that the team started working on their PC version almost immediately after the Ocarina of Time code was completely reverse engineered. The group calls themselves the ‘Ship of Harkinian’, a reference to the line from the popular Zelda CDI side story. This is probably the good news at the beginning of the year for those who have not experienced this 10 point-worthy version of the Zelda series while waiting for Breath of the Wild 2.
