With One Piece’s Wano Part coming to an end, what lies in the future for Momonosuke as Wano’s shogun?
Kodoani.com – As of One Piece Chapter 1051, the tough battle for Wano seems to be over and Kaido’s reign of terror is over. The rest of the retainers and Hiyori greeted Momonosuke as he declared himself the true Shogun, standing before his people for the first time since the fall of his family. Things won’t be easy for him – while he may look like a 28-year-old adult, Momo still retains the mind of a child. Wano needs a strong leader to repair the damage Kaido and Orochi have caused, but can Momonosuke lead his country to prosperity?
Momonosuke and his father Kozuki Oden’s subordinates were sent to the future 20 years in the future by Kozuki Toki, Oden’s wife, with the use of her Toki-Toki no Mi powers. Momo was only eight years old when he traveled to the future and was afraid to leave his mother and sister, but he knew how to preserve the Kozuki Clan and give Wano a chance at freedom. He pretends to be Kin’emon’s son to hide his identity while looking for someone to help defeat Kaido During his journey, he is immature and easily upsets about his situation.
While Momonosuke was still scared, seeing Luffy and the others willing to sacrifice themselves for Wano’s sake inspired him. Despite his fears and with Luffy’s encouragement, he knew he needed to be strong for his people. Momo convinced Shinobu to use her Juku Juku no Mi to help him age 20 years old – the age he would have been if his mother hadn’t sent him forward in the future. Juku Juku no Mi (Ripe-Ripe Enticement Jutsu) allows the user to age and decompose the target at will, but if human, the mind is not affected and aging is irreversible.
While he overcame the hardships of war and was an adult physically, Momonosuke was still a child mentally. He’s been through more than most people – even by One Piece’s standards – but his mind hasn’t fully developed or matured yet. Learning how to be an adult while still a mental child is a challenge that momo will have to overcome if she wants to become the strong leader Wano needs. He won’t get the chance to experience the wonders of youth and the lessons that come with it as an adult; instead, he will have to learn those lessons as an adult.
Despite this, Momonosuke has shown the potential to grow as a leader and make important decisions. He decided not to open Wano’s borders immediately, although the way he said it implied that he had no intention of keeping the country closed forever. That’s probably for the best, as Wano needs to heal after 20 years of dictatorship and pollution. People need time to relearn how to be free, their leadership needs to restructure, and their factories need to be demolished. Crops need to be taken care of, and children who have lost their families must be taken care of. Luckily for Momonosuke, he’s not alone and has the support of Hiyori, Kin’emon, and the others who will no doubt help guide him on his new journey as Wano’s Shogun.
