For now, the final season of Attack on Titan is on hiatus, but in the meantime, fans can check out these five action-packed anime series.
The fourth part of Attack on Titan nothing groundbreaking, pushing the story of the next four years into a new era with new enemies. The tyrannical Marley Empire exploded, just as Eren Yeager became a villain seeking to restore Eldia. Yesterday’s enemies are today’s friends and vice versa.
Without a doubt, countless fans Attack on Titan are eager to join the rest of Season 4, but until it comes out, these same five animated series will help keep those action anime’s appetites alive.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Attack on Titan has a steampunk setting, particularly in the Marley Empire and its World War I-era military technology. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has a similar aesthetic. Digging fans can enjoy the fiercely pseudo-European setting, where armed conflict, dark intrigue, science, and dark human nature define a complex yet compelling plot.
Just like AoT, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood deftly balances magical magic (alchemy) with steampunk war machine in its primetime setting. But instead of Titans, the series’ protagonist has a team of seven homunculi – artificially grown humans – with deadly powers and more. Brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric set out on a quest to find the Sorcerer’s Stone and restore their severely damaged bodies, but the scope of that quest quickly expanded greatly.
Youjo Senki – Tanya Chien Ky- The Saga of Tanya the Evil – The Military Chronicles of a Little Girl
The Saga of Tanya the Evil is another steampunk series that might remind Attack on Titan fans of the Marley Empire’s battle with its many enemies. Survival is a priority in this world, and the anti-hero protagonist, Tanya Degurechaff, can hardly be a standard isekai hero with a harem of goblin girls. Instead, a wage earner was thrust into an alternate world where World War I, more bitter and barbaric than ever, continued into the 1920s.
The newly reincarnated Tanya joins the German Empire and quickly climbs the ranks of the Mage Forces, determined to escape her fate and defy the divine X entity that placed her there. In terms of tone and content, The Saga of Tanya the Evil is sure to please Attack on Titan fans. Although 12 short episodes were shown on screen, the story continues in the light novel series.
Jujutsu Kaisen
In terms of content, Jujutsu Kaisen is more different from Attack on Titan than Fullmetal Alchemist or The Saga of Tanya the Evil. Similarly, fans can enjoy another shonen series against a dark seinen visual background. Newcomers shouldn’t be fooled by the catchy outro song – the bloody and vicious Jujutsu Kaisen as protagonist Yuji Itadori quickly sinks into a messy world where cursed energies and monsters Monsters rule every day.
Yuji is a hero who is always careful not to abuse the dark power of the evil Sukuna that resides within him, but sometimes he has no choice – He must use his dark side to win. . Attack on Titan fans may vaguely remember Eren Yeager transforming himself into Titan, the monster of battle.
Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga is a gritty yet optimistic tale of revenge, grief, and the purpose of war, told on the bloody battlefields of medieval Europe. It was the beginning of the 11th century, and Viking armies had conquered England while the rest of Europe feared in terror at the bloody axes of the warriors. But Vinland Saga also has a more personal advantage.
The story follows Thorfinn Karlsefni, a boy with bright eyes but a hardened heart at the death of his beloved father at the hands of Askeladd, a Viking bandit. Ironically, Thorfinn is currently under Askeladd learning a lot about fighting techniques, the philosophy of war and peace, and whether all of these wars are really worth it. Thorfinn is challenged to second guess every assumption he has ever made about this grim world.
Berserk (1997)
With revenge as a huge motivator, the infamous Berserk series is likely to attract plenty of fans of the Vinland Saga as well as Attack on Titan. The mercenary Guts thought he had it all when he fought the Band of the Hawk under Griffith’s recruitment. Griffith’s ambition comes at a price that Guts doesn’t want to pay – and Guts’ lover Casca is raped.
This ’90s anime doesn’t include the entire Berserk manga series, but it’s a good start, and it arguably still beats the 2016-17 iffy animation despite its age. Eren Yeager’s dark tale of revenge and rage clearly parallels Guts’ quest to save Casca and bring Griffith to justice.
