Takupedia, Chiikawa, Dragon and Chameleon, many more also won awards
Kodoani.com – The Japan Comics Association (JCA) announced the winners of the 53rd Japan Comics Association Awards on Friday. In the category of Comics and manga Calorie no Tsuyagoto (Calorie's Love Affair) by Yuua Oda won the grand prize. In the Animation category, Taku Furukawa's Takupedia won. Nagano's Chiikawa won the Manga category, as it was judged to be a work worthy of the name “manga” but not belonging to any specific genre. Each grand prize includes a gold medal, medal and 500,000 yen (approximately $3,260 USD) in prize money.
Additionally, Ryō Ishiyama's Dragon and Chameleon (Ryu to Chameleon) received the Manga Kingdom Tottori Award. Eiichi Muraoka's Kyonen no Yuki manga won the Manga Kingdom Tosa award. Takumi Nagayasu's Takumi Zensakuhin won the MEXT award. These awards include a silver plaque (except for MEXT, because MEXT received a gold plaque), a medal, and 200,000 yen (about 1,300 USD) in prize money.
The JCA has awarded the Japan Manga Artists Association Awards every year since 1972. Machiko Satonaka is the head of this year's selection committee. Committee members include: Yoshihiro Ikegawa, Jun Ishiko, Naomi Kimura, Riki Kusaka, Yukio Shinohara, Kazuhiko Shimamoto, George Piroshki, Noriko Nagano, Akiko Nemoto and Masato Hara.
