The director of the upcoming horror game The Quarry has revealed the plot details as well as the new “Death Rewind” mechanic in the product.
Supermassive Games recently announced that they will be partnering with publisher 2K Games to create The Quarry. The game has been described as a spiritual successor to the developer’s popular Until Dawn, which enjoyed much success when it was released in 2015 as an exclusive for Sony and consoles. PS4. Like Until Dawn and many other Supermassive Games projects, The Quarry is a cinematic horror adventure game inspired by teen murder movies and other horror genres.
The Quarry is building on the elements that have made Until Dawn so popular, with player choice being a key component of the experience. Many decisions made in the game have a lasting effect on the plot and can determine whether a certain character will live or die. This gives gamers the experience of an interactive horror movie, with the character’s life in the player’s hands. Since the game is only about a month away from release, director Will Byles sat down with SegmentNext to discuss some of the aspects gamers can look forward to in this upcoming adventure.
One of the first questions to be asked is how the plot is handled, as The Quarry has multiple endings depending on the choices made. Byles noted that one of the biggest challenges he faced while writing the plot was keeping track of the locations of all nine main characters in the game, as well as possible choices that could affect the story. He also had to make sure that The Quarry’s storyline could continue even after a character died.
Byles was also asked about a new mechanic that will be included in The Quarry’s gameplay, the Death Rewind system. Byles describes it as a replay engine that gives the player three “lives” that can help avoid the death of a certain character. When using one of these lives, the player is transported back to the moment just before a critical choice that resulted in a character’s death, allowing the player to choose some other option. He notes that this system will only be available at the end of the game’s storyline once or if the player has purchased The Quarry’s Deluxe Edition.
One of the final questions to be asked is about The Quarry’s duration, particularly how long a single turn is expected to last. Byles notes that playtime will depend on the player, but it can take around ten hours to see the full story. However, he also said that the game is designed to be replayable, as some players may be curious to see other endings and other alternatives, giving fans a lot of fun. many things to discover after seeing the plot for the first time. All in all, this will be an attractive horror game that gamers should try in the coming months.
