After being given his head by his master, Akaza set his sights on revenge on Tanjiro in Demon Slayer season 2, episode 8.
Kodoani.com – WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Part 2, Episode 8“Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui”, currently streaming on Funimation, Hulu, and Crunchyroll.
Some people can’t be satisfied, as evidenced by Muzan Kibutsuji’s abuse of Akaza in the first episode of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba in the Entertainment District Arc. Reporting on his failure to find the mysterious Green Spider Lily as well as his successful defeat of Hashira, Akaza was scolded and dismissed by his professor, angering the demon Superior. However, Akaza’s anger is not directed at Muzan or even himself, but rather at Tanjiro Kamado, who seems to be the least favorite demon slayer of all the demons.
If only Muzan had been blown away by Akaza’s power like the fans in Rank Three’s debut on the Mugen Ship, but alas, the demon’s ancestors certainly didn’t impress. With his omniscient knowledge of all of his demons, Muzan knew full well that Akaza barely escaped the Mugen Train with his life, leaving the three weak killers alive and even dead. It was absolutely disgusting to be injured by one of them. Akaza made the mistake of proudly announcing Hashira’s death, because for Muzan, a murderous demon was not an achievement, but the natural order of things.
After being fiercely and vehemently informed that he had let down his master, Akaza was unexpectedly eliminated. In a fit of rage, he destroyed the sword Tanjiro had impaled. Recalling how the Demon Slayer protagonist called him a coward, the Upper-Rank demon placed Tanjiro at the top of his kill list, vowing to kill after they met. Considering that Muzan ordered Tanjiro to be killed, Akaza was able to kill two birds with one Kamado.
Despite being pulled like a sheet by Muzan, Akaza’s power is still terrifying. Objectively speaking, he didn’t need to work so hard to kill Kyojuro Rengoku, spending most of the fight trying to convert Flame Hashira into magic. Even with months of training since this incident, Tanjiro definitely still can’t be as strong as Rengoku, meaning that if he does clash with Akaza early on, he won’t stand the slightest chance.
Tanjiro recently learned that Hinokami Kagura is actually a Sun Breathing Technique, a most powerful Breathing Style out there. However, he would have to master it quickly to avoid turning into a red patch the next time he saw Akaza. After all, Rengoku only lasted so long because Akaza didn’t actively kill him for most of the fight – an advantage Tanjiro certainly wouldn’t mind Akaza’s vengeful state.
More than usual in Demon Slayer, the clock is ticking for Tanjiro, having managed to defeat the fourth most powerful demon. Get stronger day by day and continue to master Fully Focused Breathing: Continuity probably won’t be enough to save Tanjiro from Akaza’s wrath. While it seems unlikely that Akaza will appear in the rest of the Amusement Park, it doesn’t appear that he will appear in the Mugen Train either.
