In the report for the first quarter of 2024, the “father” of GTA – Take Two announced the cancellation of a series of unfinished projects. With current limited financial resources, Take Two cannot cover everything. They decided to cut projects that lacked potential to devote all their efforts to GTA 6.
With the elimination of many projects, Take-Two said it also laid off about 579 employees, equivalent to nearly 5% of the existing team. This scale adjustment will help Take-Two save about $100 million in operating costs in fiscal 2024.
As for GTA 6, Take Two said this game will be released in 2025. During the game's initial release, GTA 6 will only be released on consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S). A few years after the console version, PC gamers were allowed to experience GTA 6 on their computers.
Looking back at history, we can see that this is not new. Previous GTA versions have also always prioritized consoles. Like GTA 5 first launched in 2013 on PlayStation and Xbox. It wasn't until 2015 (2 years after release) that GTA 5 appeared on PC. GTA 6 will probably have a similar route. This means that PC gamers will have to wait for 2 long years before being able to experience the masterpiece for themselves.
New game development often involves gathering feedback from previous games, observing player behavior, and integrating new technologies and design concepts. Thus, it is likely that GTA 6 will focus on the successes and challenges of both GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 (RockStar's most popular product duo today).
